I have a broad understanding of the world from a Historical standpoint as well as skills that I learned white studying History that help me work from a position of context and provide context to a piece.

    • The first thing is to do is get a handle on the project: who is asking what and for what purpose.

    • Close-reading of the script & Breakdown.

    • Research. I start with specific references if they have been provided, then go on out on branches based on aesthetics or theme, using context to guide the search.

    • I hoard the things I like. Things that fit within the brief I was given and also excite me. At this point I like to share them with the Production Designer to know that we’re on the right track. This is usually the most exciting part for me.

    • Approach relevant departments for collaboration: Printers, Set Design, Set Dec, Props, Scenics, Writers, Construction Dept., Costumes, etc. all bring a tonne of expertise and insight into where an idea can realistically go.

Then I provide some sketches for feedback based on prior conversations.

I have been creating graphic work for film & television production since 2015 as a member of the DGC (Director’s Guild of Canada) Art Department.

This is my favourite type of work. I am responsible for contributing graphic elements that enhance the production.

It engages so many aspects of creation that I love: novelty, teamwork, beauty, grime, research, humour, yarn-spinning, subtlety, grandeur.
It is also project-oriented and requires a great deal of teamwork, which I thrive on.
